Shino all-purpose Tea Bowl
This work is fired in a wood-fired kiln using traditional techniques, so the flow of the flames and changes in temperature create subtle tints in the piece.
It can be used as a matcha (powdered green tea) bowl or for a variety of other applications.
All customers who purchase this work online will receive a 40g can of Matcha “Yugen” manufactured by Marukyu-Koyamaen.
- We will prepare "Tomobako" (an accompanying Paulownia wood box) with the artist's signature and seal for this work. This work will be done after receiving your order, so please allow an additional two weeks before shipping. Please place your order with this in mind. If you do not need a Tomobako, please let us know when you place your order. In that case, we will begin shipping immediately.

Makimasa Imai
Makimasa Imai insists on firing his pieces in climbing kilns to create a deep, rich finish, and he travels 400 km from Kyoto to Takehara in Hiroshima Prefecture to fire. His artwork is designed to give a vivid and energetic feeling to the animals he creates, adding a feeling of vitality to the space they are displayed in.
Makimasa's father, ceramic artist Masayuki Imai, is a recipient of the Order of Cultural Merit, which is considered a high honor in Japan.
