A Permanent Record of Authorship

Every work of art sold through Kogei Art KYOTO is accompanied by an NFT certificate of authenticity — a permanent, tamper-proof record that travels with the piece for as long as it exists.

In the world of Kogei, where a single work may represent decades of mastery and carry the living history of a discipline, provenance matters. The NFT certificate ensures that this history is preserved with the same care as the work itself.

What is an NFT Certificate?

NFT stands for non-fungible token — a unique digital record stored on a blockchain. Unlike a paper certificate, which can be lost, damaged, or forged, a blockchain record is permanent and immutable. It cannot be deleted, altered, or duplicated.

When an NFT is issued for a physical work of art, it becomes a comprehensive record of that work’s life: its maker, its dimensions, its year of creation, its exhibition history, its ownership transfers, any appraisals or restorations it has undergone. This record is not held by any single company or institution — it exists on a decentralized network, ensuring its survival and accessibility in perpetuity.

To own a Kogei Art KYOTO work is to own not just the object, but its complete and verifiable history.

The Startrail Registry

Our NFT certificates are issued through Startrail, a blockchain infrastructure developed specifically for the art world by Startbahn, Inc. Startrail is designed to protect the credibility of artworks and artists, and to pass cultural heritage forward to future generations.

Each artwork is fitted with an IC tag — a small card or seal — that can be scanned with a smartphone to instantly access the work’s registry record, confirm its authenticity, and verify ownership. This tag should remain with the work at all times.

Receiving Your Certificate

After your purchase, KARAFUNEYA will register your email address in Startrail PORT, the NFT management platform. You will receive an email from Startrail PORT inviting you to accept the transfer of your certificate.

Please note: you will need to create a Startrail PORT account using the same email address provided at the time of purchase. The NFT transfer will not be completed until an account is created. Your artwork will be shipped independently of this process — the two may arrive in either order.

Step by Step

  1. Purchase your artwork on Kogei Art KYOTO
  2. KARAFUNEYA registers your email address in Startrail PORT
  3. You receive a transfer notification email from Startrail PORT
  4. Create your Startrail PORT account using your registered email address
  5. Accept the NFT transfer — your certificate is now yours

After Receiving Your Certificate

Once your certificate has been transferred, you can log into Startrail PORT at any time to download a digital image of your work and a file containing its full registry information. We recommend keeping these records for your own archive.

Transferring Ownership

If you sell or gift your work to another person, please transfer the SRR to the new owner via Startrail PORT and ensure the IC tag accompanies the physical work. If any contractual terms apply to the work, these should be agreed upon prior to transfer.
