Nitten is a comprehensive art exhibition consisting of five sections: Japanese-style painting, Western-style painting, sculpture, crafts, and calligraphy, and is one of the largest public exhibitions of its kind in the world.
Nitten has a long history, dating to the first Ministry of Education Art Exhibition in 1907.
Nitten is held every fall at the National Art Center, Tokyo, and then tours major cities in Japan.
In Kyoto, the traveling exhibition opened on December 23, 2023, at Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art, and I immediately went to see it.
464 works in five categories (Japanese painting, Western painting, sculpture, craft art, and calligraphy) are on display at the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art.
Among the artists exhibiting at Kogei Art KYOTO, works by Koken Murata and Issei Hattori were displayed
The exhibition is imposing, with large works in all sections.
