“GATEWAY.KYOTO” was held from May to October 2025, during the EXPO2025 OSAKA,KANSAI,JAPAN 1 period, in the areas surrounding Kyoto Station and the gates of Higashi Honganji and Nishi Honganji temples.

Throughout the event, “GATEWAY.KYOTO” featured exhibitions of cultural and artistic works by contemporary Kyoto artists and hands-on workshops across the following genres:
IKEBANA(いけばな)
PHOTOGRAPHY(写真)
JAPANESE PAINTINGS(日本画)
SCULPTURE(彫刻)
KOGEI(工芸美術)
To cap off this event, an exhibition themed around “Kyoto KOGEI Today ‒‒ Resonant Dialogue in Shōseien Garden” was held at the normally non-public Higashi Honganji Temple’s designated garden, Shoseien (Kikaku-tei). It showcased works by approximately 70 artists belonging to the Kyoto Kogei Association2, symbolizing Kyoto’s “KOGEI”.
Shōseien3 is an enclave garden within the grounds of Higashi Honganji Temple.
It is designated a National Scenic Spot as a Buddhist temple garden where flowers bloom magnificently throughout the seasons.
This time, visitors could enjoy the works alongside the beautiful garden views outside the windows within the normally closed buildings: Ryōfū-tei, Rinchi-tei, Tekisui-ken, and Rōan.
We present photos of this exhibition, focusing on works by artists exhibiting at Kogei Art KYOTO.
